Sex And The City bosses have revealed they initially made plans for a ‘beautiful last scene’ between Stanford Blatch and Carrie Bradshaw in And Just Like That… before Willie Garson’s death earlier this year.

In September, it was announced that the actor had died at the age of 57 after suffering from cancer.

Shortly before, he had filmed scenes for the Sex And The City sequel series, reprising the role of Stanford Blatch that he first played in 1998.

However, he died before there was a chance to film a parting moment for the new HBO reboot.

Speaking to TVLine, showrunner Michael Patrick King said ‘Stanford was supposed to be in all 10 episodes.’

He also revealed ‘there was a beautiful last scene that was going to be between Carrie and Stanford that he wasn’t well enough to do, which explained a little bit more.’

Discussing the plot line which saw Stanford moving to Tokyo, he added: ‘We had to put some patch to explain his absence. So I tried to make the lightest thin ice to just skate over.’

Writer Julie Rottenberg also spoke about filming towards the end of his life, saying: ‘We thought we might have more time, and we didn’t, and that is the definition of reality getting in the way of plans.

‘I know he wished he could’ve finished more of the work, and it was so aggressive and happened so fast.’

Following the news of his death, Carrie Bradshaw actor Sarah Jessica Parker paid tribute to her late friend, saying that it had been ‘unbearable’ to cope in the aftermath of his passing.

‘Sometimes silence is a statement. Of the gravity. The anguish. The magnitude of the loss of a 30 + year friendship,’ she wrote.

‘Willie. I will miss everything about you. And replay our last moments together. I will re-read every text from your final days and put to pen our last calls.’

And Just Like That airs on Sky Comedy and is available to stream on NOW.
