Tesla Addresses Safety Concerns by Eliminating Video Game Feature From Its Cars

Recent revelations were made regarding drivers being able to play video games on their Tesla vehicles while driving. Taking this into cognizance, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has directed this electric vehicle company to remove video game access to players while driving.

Tesla removes ability to play video games while driving

This news comes a mere day after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration commenced an investigation into an allegation regarding being able to play video games while driving. The vehicle juggernaut will be releasing a software update. This update disables the ability to play video games while the vehicle is in motion.

The vehicle had the option to play video games since December 2020. However, these games could be played only when the vehicle is stationary. Earlier this month, Tesla revamped its collection through a software update. A feature of this update is allowing games to be played while the vehicle is in motion. This is known as Passenger Play.

However, there is little verification involved in identifying whether or not a person is a passenger. All that appears is a prompt asking whether or not the player is a passenger. What this means is that a single person driving a Tesla can play video games on the road posing as a passenger to the system.

Distractions during driving are extremely dangerous. Heart-breaking fatalities and accidents have occurred due to brief and momentary distractions associated with phone usage. Playing video games will quite certainly distract a driver. This is incredibly dangerous as well. Driving is a task that requires 100% concentration.

The ability to play video games while performing such an intensive task is quite dangerous and reckless. An individual has filed a formal complaint about this. The individual believes that it is the company’s responsibility to ensure that there are no distractions. The individual holds Tesla accountable asking why an individual driving is even allowed to play video games while doing so.

Following the directions of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Tesla will be removing this contentious feature from its vehicles.
