‘You Gotta Finish It’: How Serena Williams Referenced Maria Sharapova Feud To Inspire Drake
Besides being one of the greatest athletes of all time, Serena Williams is also an A-list celebrity. Over the years, the American has been associated with various other celebrities of international renown.
One such individual is the Canadian rapper, Drake. Williams and the superstar rapper close for a long time, with the rapper even attending her Wimbledon matches in 2015. At one point, Serena inspired Drake to write the lyrics of a song he was struggling with.

Serena Williams used rivalry with Maria Sharapova to inspire Drake
In 2019, the Canadian rapper opened up about the making of his diss track for rapper Meek Mill, “Back 2 Back”. At that time, he was struggling with the lyrics and it was the tennis star who inspired him to get it perfect.
Serena had given him the example of her rivalry with Maria Sharapova, encouraging Drake to “finish it”. Over the years, Serena and Maria had an intense rivalry on and off the court. However, on the court, the American player dominated the battle and leads the tie with 20 wins to 2 losses.

Williams stated, “You gotta finish it. I’m talking about done. Over. It’s gotta be something that everyone that Meek’s with and he have to hear.”
While talking about Serena’s impact, Drake added, “She kind of put this battery in my back funny enough. I just went into demon mode.”
Coming to tennis, Williams has not been seen since the Wimbledon Championships exit. She injured her hamstring during the opening stages of her first-round match and had to retire.
After that, she missed the US Open due to the same injury. Recently, she also revealed that she would miss the Australian Open next year as she is yet not fully fit. Nonetheless, we wish her a speedy recovery and hope to see her return on the Tour as soon as possible.
