There’s a brand new series set to captivate viewers in the New Year, with Jamie Dornan’s drama The Tourist arriving on January 1.

The highly-anticipated new BBC programme focuses on a British man who finds himself targeted by a truck in the heart of the Australian outback.

After waking with no memory of who could be after him, he attempts to piece together his own story across one of the most unforgiving environments anywhere on earth.

‘An epic cat and mouse chase unfolds and the man later wakes in hospital, hurt, but somehow alive,’ the synopsis teases. ‘Except he has no idea who he is.

‘With merciless figures from his past pursuing him, The Man’s search for answers propels him through the vast and unforgiving outback.’

The Fall star Jamie leads the cast, but who appears alongside him? Here’s everything you need to know.

Jamie takes on the role of The Man in The Tourist.

Describing his character’s journey, Dornan said: ‘We find The Man driving through the dusty outback of South Australia and it’s very hard to gauge much about this guy,’ he teased. ‘We find out that he’s been followed by a big, nasty, aggressive-looking truck, and The Man gets hit off the road, having this terrible accident.

‘He wakes up in a hospital, doesn’t remember anything, doesn’t know who he is, and then this mad, epic journey starts with him trying to piece together what’s happened.’

Danielle Macdonald plays Helen Chambers

The Tourist also stars Dumplin’s Danielle Macdonald as probationary constable Helen Chambers.

Helen is described as earnest and eager to please, locked in a self-conscious struggle with her weight. Her struggle will be having the confidence to trust her instincts – which are far more perceptive than she realises.

Danielle is known for roles in Bird Box, Patti Cakes and Unbelievable.

Shalom Brune-Franklin plays Luci Miller

Line Of Duty’s Shalom Brune-Franklin takes on the role of Luci Miller, a young woman working in a diner in a one-horse town in the middle of nowhere.

Although she has an infectious energy, Luci is hiding a past that will become clearer as the series goes on, a past that places her at the centre of some very dangerous situations.

Damon Herriman plays Lachlan Rogers

Mindhunter’s Damon Herriman plays Detective Inspector Lachlan Rogers.

DI Rogers is described as a ‘no-bullshit police officer’. As one of the most highly regarded detective inspectors in Australia, he bears the confidence that comes with this.

Elsewhere, The Cry’s Alex Dimitriades is Kosta Panigiris, a wealthy and powerful man who has always kept at arm’s length from the messier side of his nefarious business.

The Missing’s Ólafur Darri Ólafsson plays American man Billy Nixon who runs a trucking distribution company on the outskirts of the small city of Cooper Springs.

Australian actor Kamil Ellis takes on the role of Sergeant Lammon, an easy-going cop in the sleepy tourist town of Burnt Ridge. His personable, small-town attitude to policing is at odds with the serious detectives from Major Crimes that he’ll be forced to work with.
