Moon Knight is one of the most exciting releases of the new year (Picture: Marvel Studios/Disney Plus)

The past 12 months may have been jampacked with plenty of exciting Marvel content, but there’s plenty more to look forward to from the MCU in 2022.

With the catalogue of the Marvel Cinematic Universe continuing to grow on Disney Plus, there are several new TV shows set to launch next year, joining the ranks of WandaVision, Hawkeye, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki on the streaming platform.

Some of the most exciting titles in the line-up include Moon Knight, starring Oscar Isaac; She-Hulk, with Tatiana Maslany and Jameela Jamil; and Secret Invasion, which will see Olivia Colman and Emilia Clarke star opposite Samuel L Jackson.

Whether you like series that are more grounded or those that transport you to outer space, there’ll definitely be something for everyone.

Here are all the Marvel TV shows coming to Disney Plus in 2022.

Moon Knight

Moon Knight won’t mark the only time Oscar has played a Marvel character, as he’s set to also portray Miguel O’Hara, aka Spider-Man 2099, in the animated sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One).

Nonetheless, fans can’t wait to see him in live-action in the upcoming MCU show, which will see him play former US Marine Marc Spector, who has dissociative identity disorder.

Marc becomes a vessel for Egyptian moon god Khonshu to channel through, with MCU boss Kevin Feige explaining that he is ‘an action hero who jumps out of buildings and gets into fights’.

The show is set to launch in 2022 and will consist of six episodes.

She-Hulk

Orphan Black star Tatiana joins the MCU as Jennifer Walters, whose cousin is Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), otherwise known as Hulk.

Jennifer, who becomes She-Hulk, is a lawyer whose cases involve other people with superhuman abilities.

The series, which will premiere in 2022 and have 10 episodes, will also see Tim Roth return as Abomination, as well as starring The Good Place actor Jameela as Titania, Jennifer’s nemesis.

Secret Invasion

Secret Invasion will delve further into the mystery of the Skrulls, the alien species introduced in Captain Marvel.

How many of the MCU’s most beloved heroes were actually being impersonated by the shape-shifting beings… is a question many fans may ask in the lead-up to the series.

The six-episode arc will see Samuel return as Nick Fury, the former director of S.H.I.E.L.D., as well as Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, the leader of the Skrull group with whom Nick has become close, and Cobie Smulders as former agent Maria Hill.

New stars joining the MCU include Olivia and Emilia, with One Night in Miami star Kingsley Ben-Adir being cast as the main antagonist.

Ms Marvel

It’s time to introduce TV viewers to Kamala Khan, who also goes by the moniker Ms Marvel and will be depicted by new MCU star Iman Vellani.

Kamala is a huge fan of the Avengers, looking up especially to Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), who made her debut in the 2019 film Captain Marvel.

The teenager, who’s set to appear in the 2021 film The Marvels, then develops her own superpowers, gaining the ability to shapeshift.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special

Christmas might have only just passed in 2021, but we already have a festive treat to look forward to next year.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, written and directed by James Gunn, will see Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, and Pom Klementieff reprise their roles from the films.

It will mark the very first TV special for the MCU and will be a part of Phase Four.

I Am Groot

Another Guardians of the Galaxy-related release, I Am Groot will be an animated series released on Disney Plus, featuring a variety of shorts about Baby Groot as he grows up in the galaxy.

The animation style has been described as photorealistic, with James returning as an executive producer on the project with Kirsten Lepore in the director’s chair.

Ironheart

It’s currently unclear whether Ironheart will be coming out in late 2022 or 2023, but either way, we can’t wait to find out more about this production.

The show will follow Dominique Thorne as the titular character Riri Williams, who will first be introduced in the Black Panther sequel Wakanda Forever.

Consisting of six episodes, viewers will get to learn more about Riri’s story, who is a genius who modified Tony Stark’s Iron Man armour to make it her own.

Armor Wars

Again, we’re not entirely sure of the release date for Armor Wars, but it could well be late 2022, although filming is due to begin that same year.

Don Cheadle will be returning as James Rhodes, aka War Machine, who was Tony Stark’s best friend.

Rhodey must cope with an extremely difficult situation when, following Tony’s death, some of his old tech ‘falls into the wrong hands’.

What If…?

While it’s not confirmed, it could be that the second season of What If…? is due to arrive on Disney Plus in 2022, considering the first season came out this year.

The show imagines what would have happened if Marvel’s greatest heroes went down different paths, with storylines including T’Challa becoming Star-Lord and Doctor Strange being the cause of the destruction of the universe.

It’ll be fascinating to see what new plotlines there are to explore in the beautifully animated release.

Untitled Wakanda series

Another possible 2022 release is an untitled Wakanda series, which is being developed by Ryan Coogler, who wrote and directed Black Panther and its sequel, Wakanda Forever.

It’s understood that The Walking Dead star Danai Gurira will be returning as Okoye, the head of the Dora Milaje, the elite group of female warriors who defend the ruler of Wakanda.

The entire MCU catalogue can be found on Disney Plus.
