“1st in Line” – Former Red Bull Driver Makes a Bold Claim About Oscar Piastri’s F1 Future

Oscar Piastri will be in Formula One in the 2022 season, but he would be doing simulator work and development for the Alpine F1 team. The 2021 Formula 2 Champion lost out on an F1 seat to Guanyu Zhou in the Alfa Romeo Racing team.

Former Red Bull driver Mark Webber, who manages Piastri, stated it is a matter of time when Piastri will race on the grid.

It’s a matter of when, not if: Former Red Bull driver on Piastri

As reported by Formule1.nl, the Australian mentioned Piastri has won everything there is to win in the junior categories. So it would be interesting to how the young driver develops in his role as the Reserve driver in the French outfit. But Mark is still not sure why a driver like Piastri is not on the grid for the 2022 season.

“You would think so, otherwise all drivers in Formula 2 and Formula 3 would be wasting their time. Seeing all he’s done, what’s the point of doing what he did if you can’t make the switch in the end? It’s a matter of when, not if. That’s not meant to be arrogant, but it just has to be.” said Webber.

Webber stated that the system for junior drivers works. “The system works and I know that Stefano Domenicali (Formula 1 boss, ed.) is on top of it.

He knows that Oscar should absolutely reap the benefits of his successes in the junior classes and, of course, Alpine and the junior classes know this needs to be addressed. Oscar should, and will, be the first in line when the rider market reopens,” concludes Webber.

It is such a shame that F1 fans have been denied to see the talent of Piastri on the grid. But let us hope that we can see the young Aussie driver get his shot in an F1 car in 2023.
