I have lost all my confidence and hide myself away from the world because I hate the way I look

DEAR DEIDRE: I HAVE lost all my confidence and hide myself away from the world because I hate the way I look.

I can’t bear to look in a mirror. I look nothing like I did a decade ago. It makes me feel so sad. I am 45 and my partner is 48. We have been together for 12 years.

I can’t bear to look in a mirror – I look nothing like I did a decade ago

No issue is too small, too large or too embarrassing. Read our personal replies here.

I am in the best, most loving and loyal relationship I have ever been in.

We have two girls together and I also have a child from a previous relationship. I have told my partner how I feel but he says I am beautiful. He says he absolutely adores me just the way I am, so why can’t I accept that?

DEIDRE SAYS: If looking in the mirror is making you feel worse, limit the time you spend in front of it.

Be gentle to yourself at times when you feel like being self-critical and think about what you would say to a friend who felt like this.

We all age so try to focus on what you have gained over time – healthy children and a loving relationship.

My support pack on Raising Self-Esteem will help.
