Dana White Says a Lot of Things Have ‘Broken the Sport of Boxing’

There is no doubt that Dana White and his partners played a big role in making MMA mainstream. Back in the day, boxing was all the rage, and MMA was nowhere near the popularity of boxing. However, because of the efforts of several people, including White, UFC has dominated a huge space in the world of combat sports.

White wished to make MMA a mainstream sport and succeeded in doing so. While MMA, as a sport, is doing extremely well, the UFC President is not happy with how boxing promotions have been operating. In a recent interview with Teddy Atlas and Ken Rideout, White spoke about the problems with boxing.

When Atlas pointed out that the promoters were turning the networks into “a farm system”. According to him, they are developing fighters for the benefit of the promoters. White agreed with Atlas’ perspective and had a few points of his own to add.

White said, “100 percent. You’re absolutely right and it’s one of the many things that has broken the sport of boxing. You know, when me and my partners got into this 20 years ago, our goal and what has remained my goal is to build this sport into the biggest sport in the world”.

“15 years ago people thought I was nuts when I was saying that. But look at what we’ve done. Look at what we’re doing. That’s never been the goal of boxing, it’s never been the goal… Every time they put on a fight, it’s like they’re going out of business sale. How much money can we, can we steal from everybody!”

From what he said, it is clear that he is not happy with how fights are being promoted to the audience, plus the way the system is working.

Dana White: Will he enter the business of boxing?

In the same interview, White also mentioned that the boxing business is a mess. He said that one would have to enter and clean it all up. However, because of Conor McGregor, White has been involved in the boxing business once already and it was a huge hit.

So, if the right opportunity comes by, Dana White might consider extending his interests in boxing as well.
