Nick Kyrgios’ Australian Open 2022 Entry in Jeopardy After Asthma Issues in Melbourne

Having proved himself to be a rare talent on the ATP tour, Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios didn’t fin success the way some of his peers found over the years. But, the Aussie vowed to keep entertaining fans for as long as he can with his ballistic tennis.

Kyrgios was given a wild-card to play the Australian Open warm-up event in Melbourne. He was supposed to play his first-round match against Alex Molcan in the Rod Laver Arena today. Unfortunately, the Aussie seemed to have pulled out of the event moments ago.

Nick Kyrgios pulls out of Melbourne Summer Set due to asthma

The reason for his withdrawal is revealed to be asthma. Jedd Zetzer, who is a radio host at The First Serve, mentioned that Kyrgios will make a comeback at the Sydney Tennis Classic.

Nick Kyrgios has pulled out of this weeks Melbourne Summer Set as he struggles with asthma. We’ll have to wait until at least next weeks Sydney Tennis Classic for his comeback”.

Kyrgios had played only a few tournaments on the ATP tour last year. After the stint in Australia, he only appeared at Wimbledon and retired during his third-round matchup against Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Even at the US hard-court season, Kyrgios failed to maintain consistency and was defeated in opening round matches in almost all of the events. After attending the Laver Cup in Boston, he flew back home to start his pre-season preparation.

Kyrgios had a forgettable 2021 ATP season

During his short-stinted 2021 season, Nick still managed to produce box-office tennis and entertained fans with his unusual shots. His matches against Ugo Humbert and Dominic Thiem at the Australian Open made up for an enthralling watch.

Also at Wimbledon, Kyrgios teamed up with the American legend Venus Williams to play mixed-doubles. Even though this partnership ended as the Aussie had to pull out of the event mid-way, fans wanted the duo to team up more frequently.

With the latest setback at the Melbourne warm-up event, it might get difficult for Nick Kyrgios to enjoy success at the ‘happy slam’ without enough match practice.
