Abigail Breslin is taking a break from Instagram after receiving online abuse about her mask wearing.

The Little Miss Sunshine star, 25, said she would not be posting for a while after she was trolled over her approach to wearing a face covering.

She had previously responded to one social media user who called her a ‘loser’ for wearing a mask in a photo on a rollercoaster.

Abigail’s father died in February 2021 from complications linked to Covid, at the age of 78.

Commenting on the photo, taken in Las Vegas, one user posted: ‘Who’s the pathetic loser wearing a mask?’ and Breslin was quick to fire back a response.

She wrote: ‘That pathetic loser would be me, someone who lost their dad due to someone not wearing a mask and giving him Covid. You can kindly go f*** off now.’

The star has since decided to take a break from Instagram ‘for a few days,’ saying she does ‘not need to further explain myself’ about another photo in which she is posing with a group of friends and no-one in the picture is wearing a mask.

She shared a screenshot of a comment she had received, reading: ‘She’s upset that people are not wearing their masks but yet here nobody is… what a hypocrite.’

Abigail replied with the facts: ‘We took ours off for one photo. Everyone present was vaccinated as well as being tested before hand.

‘I was calling someone out for telling me my father was ‘weak’ because he passed away from Covid and said I was a ‘pathetic loser’ for wearing my mask on a public ride with strangers.

‘I wear my mask always around others [except] for friends I know are vaccinated and have been tested beforehand.’

Announcing her hiatus from the social media app, she captioned the screenshot: ‘Ok this will be my last post for awhile because I do not need to further explain myself.’

Abigail was left ‘in shock’ following her father’s death last year.

Her father Michael was a telecommunications expert, consultant and computer programmer.

He also left behind Abigail’s brothers, Ryan and Spencer, who are also actors.

Abigail revealed her father’s diagnosis early last year and asked her followers to pray for him.

She said he had been placed on a ventilator as she urged people to continue wearing masks while following government guidelines.

Shortly after, she announced his tragic death in an emotional Instagram post.

She noted how penning her tribute to him was ‘harder than I thought’ as she shared photos of him through the years.

‘At 6:32 PM EST, my sweet, perfect, amazing, heroic, wonderful dada passed away after my family and I said goodbye.

‘It was Covid-19 that cut my sweet daddy’s life too short. I appreciate more than you know, the love and support my family and I have received,’ she wrote on February 27.

‘Mostly I want to remember my dad for who he was. My dad was a hilarious, boisterous, tenacious, rebellious, intelligent, sweet, incredible human being. He loved life. He loved his family. He loved the simple things…’

She continued by sharing all the things Michael loved doing, including ‘taking pictures and flying planes and good dinners and music from the 50’s and 60’s and good couches and Kenyan mountain coffee and funny YouTube videos and email threads and weird poems and politics.’

Assuring her father that she will always love him, Abigail concluded: ‘I miss you daddy. I can’t wait to see you again. I won’t ever, ever, ever forget you.’
