I ordered my son a PS5 for Christmas but when he opened the box all he found was a DOG BED

A MUM has told how her son’s Christmas was ruined when he opened the box of his PS5 to see Amazon had sent a DOG BED instead.

Rebecca French, from Cambridgeshire, burst into tears when her son George, nine, made the discovery on Christmas morning.

She had ordered the coveted console on Amazon and when it arrived she had no suspicions that the console had been replaced with a pooch’s pillow.

Rebecca told Sun Online: “I ordered the Playstation September 23.

“It came and because it was around the time that the kids were coming home from school I just took it off the driver and squirrelled it away.

“When I got a chance I opened the outside box and put it away for Christmas day.

“Nothing from the outer part of packaging, down to the actual exterior of the PS5 box gave any indication that it was wrong. Nothing wrong with the seals or anything.”

But when young George, who had been looking forward to play F1, opened the present on Christmas morning, the family were confused by its contents.

The mum-of-two continued: “It came to Christmas morning and there was a little note on his PS5 saying that elves had created magic to get him the console because they were so hard to come by.

“He had only got a few other small presents because obviously the value of the PS5 – so he had left it till last.

“He unwrapped it and got really excited and took the box to the back room where we were going to set it up.

“Then we opened the box and it was full with a dog bed.

“It was just heartbreaking because he was told elves had helped get the PS5.

“Everything that we’ve strived to do as a parent – to give him that magic – it just crashed.

“I didn’t know whether to be sick on the floor or to cry. I cried and it was the first time he had ever seen me cry.

“He looked after me for the whole day which I couldn’t be more proud of.”

Rebecca says Amazon were unable to explain why or how the £500 gaming console was replaced by the new dog bed.

She said: “As soon as it happened I rang on Christmas day and I got quite a quick response

“The call handler was very helpful and said she would put it forward and I would hear shortly.

“But then we got an email to say that they completely understood my concern and they were sorry to hear that I had received the wrong item – but that the return window was not active so there was nothing they could do.

“I have since been on an online chat and I’ve finally gotten a refund.

“But to get it was nearly two hours on the phone and they made us return the dog bed before we got the refund.”

Rebecca and husband Dave managed to get their son another PS5 from Currys using a credit card, which they have received.

Rebecca explained: “Currys have delivered the new one but it was more the fact that we had to watch magic ripped from our child.

“It was just the fact that on Christmas day our lovely son had to learn that there is really horrible people out there. It was heartbreaking.”

“All he wanted to do was play F1 and be Lando Norris.

“I’ve tweeted him because you never know, I just want to claw back some sort of magic for my son.”

The Sun has approached Amazon for comment.
