Instagram lets you re-order your photo feed from today – has your phone got it?

INSTAGRAM is finally letting you change the order of your feed in three different ways.

One of the options is chronological, allowing you to see posts in actual time order.

The change was actually teased just last month.

In a grilling from US lawmakers, boss Adam Mosseri revealed the feature has been in development for months and that they’re aiming to launch it in early 2022.

Instagram originally showed snaps chronologically when it launched in 2010 but years later decided to use algorithms instead.

The algorithms work out what they think you’ll like most and pops it at the top of your feed, based on how you interact with other stuff in the app.

A chronological order return would be a massive row back on the company’s previous claims that algorithms are best for the experience.

People have long cried out for the Meta-owned platform to bring back the old system.

Over the summer Mosseri ruled that out, saying it “became impossible for most people to see everything”.

Now it’s finally happening, as confirmed by Mosseri in a tweet.

“We’re starting to test the ability to switch between three different views on your Home Screen,” the Instagram boss said.

“Two of which would give you the option to see posts in chronological order.”

These views will be Home, Favourites and Following.

Home is the regular experience that you have today, ranking content based on your interests.

Favourites pulls from your top accounts, including your closest friends, family and other profiles that you like.

And Following is the original Instagram experience in fully chronological order.

No exact time-frame is given for a full roll-out, although Mosseri promised they’d be available “soon”.

However, he said that these new feed options are available right now for some users.

And over the coming weeks, even more Instagrammers will get to access them.

You can choose a feed option by tapping a drop-down menu in the top-left of the app.

If it doesn’t appear for you, try updating the Instagram app.

And if you still can’t see it, it’s likely that your account simply hasn’t been approved yet.

Instagram regularly tests features on a range of devices, across operating systems, countries and user demographics.

This is to make sure the feature works as intended.

So once it’s all working properly, the feature can fully roll out across the world.
