Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 out this Christmas claims insider

New rumours suggest the next Star Wars game from the makers of Apex Legends will be revealed in May, with plans for a 2022 launch.

Before the release of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, in late 2019, things were not going well for EA’s Star Wars games, with Battlefront 2 proving a disaster at launch and Lucasfilm taking away sole control of the licence to share with other publishers.

To many people’s surprise though Fallen Order turned out to be very good and while EA has never formally announced a sequel it’s made it pretty clear that one is coming – there’s just been no clue as to exactly when.

There’s currently a number of new Star Wars games that have been announced but not revealed, including Ubisoft’s open world game, but according to reliable rumourmonger Jeff Grubb the reveal for Fallen Order 2 will happen around May this year and before E3 in June.

It’s still unclear whether E3 is ever going to go back to how it was pre-coronavirus but considering the Star Wars Celebration event is due to take place at the end of May that does seem the obvious place for a reveal – especially as it’s where the original game was first announced.

According to Grubb, speaking in the latest premium Giant Bomb podcast, you can ‘expect to hear about the game in a significant way before E3’.

Grubb also adds that while the game may slip into 2023 the current aim is for it to release this Christmas, with the original game having come out in November.

It will no doubt be tempting for EA to push for a Christmas release no matter what but hopefully they’ll have learned their lessons from the rushed launch of Battlefield 2042 last year – although, let’s face it, publishers seldom ever learn from past mistakes.

Since it’s never been formally announced it’s impossible to say what Fallen Order 2 will be about, but the original certainly left enough plot threads and surviving characters to justify a follow-up.
