LANI Guinier, the legal scholar at the center of the 1993 Bill Clinton voting rights controversy has died at 71.

Guinier became widely known after former president Bill Clinton pulled her nomination as assistant attorney general in 1993 after controversy emerged surrounding her views on voting rights.

Her cousin Sherrie Russell-Brown confirmed the news on Friday.
