Tampa Bay Buccaneers Decline to Pay Antonio Brown $2 Million in Incentives Before His Meltdown

The recent emerging news around Antonio Brown only makes every one of his supporters feel disappointment and regret. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who got in touch with Buccaneers GM Jason Licht, Brown demanded a guarantee of his 2 Million incentives. The revelation comes following his shirtless meltdown at the MetLife Stadium and his subsequent dismissal by the Buccaneers franchise. Brown now, a former Buccaneer, not only has lost a ton of money but also public credibility.

As per his return to Buccaneers last spring, Brown did sign a one-year deal, worth up to $6.25 million. The deal also includes a $2 million signing bonus with $3.1 million guaranteed money. Now since he stopped playing, he has cost himself payments of several million dollars in bonuses.

The bonuses were also achievable targets for the wideout who has been a divisive figure wherever he ended up. The recent Bruce Arians press conference further clarifies that he didn’t share information about injury with them.

Antonio Brown getting in his own way

ESPN’s Adam Schefter did report that during the halftime of the Bucs-Jets game, Brown was angry over not being thrown the football. The situation was quickly put off by the players in the changing room. The next major problem following half-time was Brown refusing to step out on the field once again. It was at this point of no return, that Arians instructs him to leave the field.

Though Brown’s quality is essential for this Tampa offense, the wait is not worth the trouble. The optics of Brown abandoning his team on live television, just signal that it’s best that they all move on. It is there for every Bucs fan to see, again and again, so unlike his previous historical outbursts, he has just been a screw-up waiting to happen.

The addition of the incentive angle only puts fans wondering if this was all about money. The saga now seems to have begun reaching the end with both the organization and fans focusing on their team and the NFL playoffs ahead.
