Johnny Knoxville made a big impression on WWE SmackDown this week as he confirmed his entry into the Royal Rumble match.
The Jackass Forever star had already revealed he intended to enter and win the legendary bout on January 29 – with the winner earning a world championship opportunity at WrestleMania – and now it’s official.
He made an appearance on the blue brand this week, first having a verbal confrontation with Sami Zayn backstage as the latter rubbished the idea he could succeed in the match.
Knoxville pointed out all he needs to be able to do is throw people over the top rope, which is a fair point.
Zayn then went out to face Rick Boogs in a losing effort against Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura’s buddy before Johnny slipped into the ring.
He came up behind Sami and threw him over the top rope, celebrating wildly and hyping up his upcoming Rumble appearance.
Knoxville had seemingly declared himself for the bout as he took to social media on January 1 and shared a video revealing the exciting news.
Alongside the clip, he wrote: ‘Happy New Year’s Day and love to everyone. I have a big announcement that I have been dying to get off of my chest.
‘I spent a lot of times over the holiday thinking about how i wanted to start off my 2022, and I decided I want to do it kicking ass and taking names. And the best way to do that i feel is making a run for the Rumble, that’s right @WWE’s Royal Rumble.’
Meanwhile, Knoxville – who referred to current champions Big E and Roman Reigns as ‘Little E’ and ‘Roman Ruins’ in the video – promised to channel the likes of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’ en route to what would be a sensational victory.

‘Training starts today, not that I will need a lot of it because I have seen the WWE’s current roster and it’s laughable to think anyone can throw me over the top rope,’ he added in the caption.
‘LAUGHABLE! I will be channeling my wrestling heroes like @therock, Abdullah the Butcher and the great Gorilla Monsoon. The way I’m looking at it I am giving myself a %100 chance of winning.
‘What chance do you think I have? Sincerely, Johnny Knoxville, World Champ #roadtowrestlemania #royalrumble #wwe #jackassforever (sic)’
*WWE Royal Rumble airs Saturday, December 29 at 1am on the WWE Network.
