Jayson Tatum Shuts Down Former NBA Champion’s Criticism While Praising Celtics All Star Teammate’s Performance vs Knicks
Former NBA champion Kendrick Perkins has a tendency of making comparisons while commenting on a player’s performance. While that may be a rational thing to do as an analyst, the nature of the comparison becomes questionable at times. And this time, Boston Celtics All-Star Jayson Tatum was not pleased with what Perkins said. And that Perkins’ unsolicited comparisons deserved a response this.
While praising Jaylen Brown for his impressive performance against the Knicks, Perkins took a shot at Tatum. This is how Jayson Tatum responded to that tweet with a rather positive message.
Normalizing uplifting one man without bringing another one down… JB played great it’s alright to leave it at that https://t.co/hC2mGhNljQ

Jayson Tatum silences Perkins’ criticism with a positive message
After Perkins tweeted about Brown’s performance, Tatum responded to his tweet. He said, “Normalizing uplifting one man without bringing down the other.. JB played great, it’s alright to leave it at that.” And this is a rather mature response from Tatum, considering it is a rising trend to see Perkins drop hot takes as tweets and write “Carry On..” like its not even questionable.

It has become an increasing trend where analysts and experts are bringing up comparisons that are arguably driven solely by petty motivations. Like Skip Bayless, who has a tendency to make unsolicited comments about LeBron James in his tweets.
Lakers looked like a basketball team tonight. Ball moved, feet moved on D. LeBron managed another 32 (vs reeling Hawks) but only 1-6 from three. Malik Monk: 6-11 from three! He’s saving LeBrick! Look out, Memphis.

It is only natural to assume that they made these comments intending to take a shot at a player’s morale and confidence. And while personal reasons may drive it, it certainly adds an unnecessarily negative angle to a spirited competition.

What does this mean for the Boston Celtics?
While talking about how Brown helped the Celtics with a triple-double against the Knicks, Perkins mentioned Tatum’s statistics out of nowhere. And he followed that by “Still got the win tho!” as if a 42.8% field goal percentage is a bad thing. Had it been a fan or a spectator, some professionalism may not be expected. However, coming from a professional, let alone a former Celtics player seems non-empathetic and uncalled for.
Nevertheless, the Celtics clinched a victory in a rematch over the Knicks. When these two sides faced each other, the Celtics lost the game on a buzzer-beater by RJ Barrett. So this was a statement response by the Celtics who lost a 25 point lead last game.
