Draymond Green on the Michael Jordan of This Generation: “That’s the Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson Effect”

Stephen Curry is undoubtedly one of the top three players in the NBA right now, if not the best. However, NBA fans cannot deny that the way he has influenced the game, has arguably never been seen before. The last time someone had such a global impact on the game was Michael Jordan.
Just like Michael put the NBA on the global map, Curry’s style of play has influenced an entire generation of basketball players. Therefore it won’t be wrong if someone equates the two in terms of generational impact. Draymond Green who has played with Stephen Curry his entire career also made this bold comparison.

Draymond Green calls Stephen Curry the Michael Jordan of this era

During his conversation with Chelsea Gray and Too $hort, Green spoke about the impact of his teammates Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson on an entire generation. He said, “I think the NBA is a very copycat league you know I’m saying? So because it was you as us like oh man, Steph Curry shoot the sh*t out the ball, like Klay Thompson shoot the sh*t out the ball.”

He further spoke about how that inspired an entire generation of Basketballers. And with the volume at which Curry was doing it, he was undoubtedly the face of this revolution. Hence he said, “And then you see these young kids come in and it’s like Steph is like their MJ. You know, like everybody wants to shoot the long three. You walk in the gym, you see little kids f*cking slaying that thing from like 40 feet out. But that’s the Steph Curry and Klay Thompson effect, you know.”

What does this mean for the GOAT debate?

While Curry may not be as successful as Michael Jordan was in terms of championships, he is certainly equally impactful to the game, if not more. Jordan’s era brought the commercial revolution of the NBA and his legendary scoring inspired the likes of Harden and Bryant in the coming generation. Similarly, Curry’s individual impact is somewhere on a similar trajectory. His game inspired the likes of Trae Young and Luka Doncic in today’s game.
