Jake Gyllenhaal is all of us as he recalls awkward ‘starstruck’ moment when he met Brad Pitt

Jake Gyllenhaal had an extremely relatable moment as he recalled being starstruck when he first met fellow Hollywood actor Brad Pitt.

The Donnie Darko actor, 41, starred alongside Pitt’s then-wife, Friends star Jennifer Aniston, in 2002’s The Good Girl.

The film, which also featured John C Reilly, saw Jennife receive plaudits for the role in which her character has an affair with a younger colleague, played by Jake – with the actor recently confessing their sex scenes were ‘torture’ for him.

Jake revealed that he was starstruck when acclaimed Broadway performer and Homeland star Mandy Patinkin came to watch him in Sunday In The Park With George, as he ‘originated the (title) role and basically created the role’.

The Brokeback Mountain star then added: ‘And I was definitely starstruck when I first met Brad Pitt on the set of The Good Girl.’

Speaking with W Magazine, recalled: ‘I was working with Jennifer Aniston, who was his wife at the time, and there were a lot of very racy scenes.

‘I remember putting my hand out to shake his, and accidentally hitting the door. He said, so confidently and kindly, “Well, you have another one. It’s all right.”

‘He was very, very, very sweet to me, and it was actually a really lovely exchange.’

We feel the second-hand mortification, although at least Brad was so nice about it.

Jennifer and Brad began dating in 1998 and tied the knot in 2000, but divorced in 2005.

Oscar nominee Jake also spoke about his favourite films growing up, telling the publication they were 1958 MGM musical Gigi, with Leslie Caron and Louis Jourdan, and Keanu Reeves action film Point Break.

He explained: ‘I was forced to watch Gigi, and so it slowly became my favourite film.

‘But then it was Point Break. Doesn’t that sort of encapsulate me?’

The star, who is in talks for a remake of Patrick Swayze’s iconic 1989 bouncer movie Road House, was on the internet’s lips (or typing fingers, rather) back in November, following the release of Red (Taylor’s Version), the re-recorded album of his ex, Taylor Swift.

After the release of the 10-minute version of break-up song All Too Well, purported to be about him, his love life even reached the ears of legendary singer and sassy tweeter Dionne Warwick.

The 80-year-old took to the platform to ask him to return his ex-girlfriend’s scarf, writing: ‘If that young man has Taylor’s scarf he should return it.

‘It does not belong to you. Box it up and I will pay the cost of postage, Jake.’

Wild!
