Phillip Schofield suggests Boris Johnson signs up for Dancing On Ice to ‘fill extra time’ as pressure mounts on PM to quit

Phillip Schofield urged Prime Minister Boris Johnson to get his skates on for Dancing On Ice amid calls for him to resign over an alleged BYOB party hosted at Downing Street in May 2020.

Claims of the Bring Your Own Booze bash came after an email obtained by ITV News – addressed to at least 100 staff members – told them to ‘make the most of the weather’ and gather in the garden of Number 10.

This was despite the UK being in the midst of a lockdown during the first wave of the Covid pandemic.

At the time, members of the public were limited to meeting only one other person outdoors, leaving many unable to see dying relatives or attend their loved one’s funerals.

But with pressure increasingly mounting on the PM to resign after the alleged events and poorly-received apology, Phillip has teased what he thinks Mr Johnson’s next move should be – a Dancing On Ice contestant.

Phil thinks Boris should join the line-up of the popular Sunday night show if he ends up standing down from his role.

When the panel were asked who was on their ‘bucket list’ of contestants, he joked to Metro.co.uk the PM would be the perfect fit.

He said: ‘Well, I think you’ve all got to look for someone who’s looking at different career options or different things they can do, to fill in extra time.

‘So maybe Boris?’ the Dancing On Ice host giggled.

His co-host Holly Willoughby weighed in further, joking: ‘We have great office parties.’

‘What’s more, we have all got just a little bit of cheese,’ Phil added, showing his backstage plate of snacks.

It’s not the first time it’s been suggested he should sign up for an ITV reality show, with Ant and Dec pulling a similar stunt on I’m A Celeb last year.

After Frankie Bridge left the castle in third place, Dec claimed they’d already booked the first contestant for the 2022 series.

The pair unveiled an I’m A Celeb campmate-style T-shirt with a name and phone number on the back, which read Boris in capital letters.

Dancing On Ice hosts Holly and Phil even went live to the crucial PMQs on Wednesday, in the middle of their daytime show, This Morning.

Mr Johnson went up against Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer, where he was forced to address allegations of the staff party.

After Boris spoke to the House of Commons, Holly said: ‘I also don’t think many people in the workplace are encouraged to bring their own booze.

‘He seems to heavily be pushing the ball away by saying let’s see what happens in the enquiry…’

Dancing On Ice begins on Sunday night at 6.30pm on ITV.
