Martin Brundle Reveals the Biggest Conundrum With Replacing Michael Masi as F1 Race Director

There has been a massive outcry from the F1 fans to replace FIA race director Michael Masi. The Aussie made several controversial decisions throughout the season, with the championship deciding call at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix being the most divisive one. While acknowledging all this, former F1 driver and Sky pundit Martin Brundle mentioned that it is difficult to replace Masi.

The FIA race director has gotten ire from the fans after he made a controversial call that changed the course of the championship in the season finale. But Brundle mentioned that it is difficult for Michael Masi to look over 22 races in a season.

As reported by GrandPrix247, the former driver mentioned that there is no obvious replacement for Michael Masi right now. He also claimed that the job is too big for just one race director to handle.

“So I don’t know if that’s tenable, all-around. Who would you replace him with? Be careful what you wish for, I would say in this,” said Brundle.

“What I absolutely know for sure is that changing Michael Masi will not fix the problem. This is way too big a job for one person to handle this in a 23-race season. It’s only going to grow, we’re all over the world.

They had it all under control, but it’s just growing exponentially so Masi, if he stays, needs a lot of support around him and I suspect that’s what they’re looking at, at the moment. And who would actually want to step into his shoes right now?” said Brundle.

The Sky pundit is correct in assessing that it is difficult to replace Masi. But it is an interesting suggestion to have more than one race director in Formula One. With F1 having more and more races, having a rotating race director might not be a bad idea. What do you think about this?
