After what feels like a lifetime of waiting, Scream has finally been released in cinemas with Ghostface ready to rip through a new group of friends.

Critics have raved about the fifth instalment of the slasher franchise, with offering it a an impressive 4.5 stars.

Ever since the cast was announced last year – with Jack Quaid, Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera and Dylan Minnette joining returning fan favourites Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courteney Cox – fans have been on the edge of their seats with anticipation, trying to figure out who exactly could be under the infamous mask.

Chatting to ahead of the release, Neve, who plays the iconic Sidney Prescott, explained that it’s not quite the same experience on set as she was well aware of which castmates wanted her character dead.

When asked if she eyed any of her co-stars suspiciously on set, she told us: ‘Well, we know from reading the script, who the killer is. So it’s not too confusing, luckily.

‘These movies are so much fun, right? They’re so much fun to watch, they’re really fun to be a part of, they’re really entertaining, funny, and scary. It’s like a rollercoaster ride and we don’t take ourselves too seriously, but they’re still clever.

‘I’m so grateful for this franchise, it’s done great things for all of us.’

However, not everyone got the memo about the killer, as other members of the Scream cast confessed that they were totally clueless about the ending.

In fact, directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett handed out scripts with different scenes and endings to keep suspicion up and ensure nothing was leaked before the official release.

‘Definitely the first script that I read was a different ending,’ Melissa, who played Sam Carpenter, said. ‘And then when we all arrived in Wilmington and we had our first table read, we were only given up until page 80, the end of the second act.

‘So in the table read we didn’t know what the actual ending was going to be. It kept us with a dynamic of suspecting each other.’

Jack, joining the fray as Richie, agreed: ‘It was weird, it was so meta! We were making a whodunnit and we’re also, as actors, trying to figure out who is playing the killer.

‘It’s so weird, it was so strange.’

While Marley Shelton, who returned to the fold as Judy Hicks and packed her lemon squares for the jaunt, joked: ‘Well that’s the unique thing about being a cast member of the Scream franchise.

‘At any moment, you can equally be a potential victim or a potential suspect. I think we try to tease that out as much as possible.’

Scream is in cinemas now.
