WWE superstar King Xavier Woods is set to miss out on this year’s Royal Rumble after suffering an injury on SmackDown.

The New Day star teamed up with Kofi Kingston last week to take on long-time rivals The Usos in a Street Fight for the brand’s tag team championships, and it seems the brutal bout came at a cost.

Speaking on Thursday during G4’s Attack of the Show, he revealed he had suffered a torn plantaris, which is the muscle underneath his calf, and he could miss four to six weeks of action

Explaining how he got hurt, he added: ‘Yeah, so I was jumping in the ring to do a DDT.

‘I spring off the bottom rope and grab the guy and then run his head into the ground hopefully shattering all the bones in his body so I can pin him and win the match, and make more money.

‘So I did that part still but in the process – no, just jumping off the rope, so nothing, like, not a shark attack, not a steel chair hit, not a machine gun, not a machete. I just jumped.’

Woods noted there was more to do in the match, but he had to balance that with making sure he didn’t do more damage to himself, or put his opponents at risk.

As transcribed by Fightful, he said: ‘I still had some stuff to do. But in those situations, you’ve got to figure out like, “Am I hurt to the point where I can no longer like go forward? Am I hurt to the point where I could mess up and possibly negatively affect someone else’s health?”

‘You gotta keep everybody safe in there, and I was okay. You know, this sucks. I can’t do this or that but I can do this for this. We finished everything and it’s all cool. So, like, four to six weeks, and I’ll be good.’

Unfortunately for Xavier, and the fans, that timeline puts his expected recovery beyond the Rumble on January 29, which means he won’t be able to appear in the iconic match.

His injury doesn’t come at a great time for SmackDown as a whole, with WWE confirming last weekend that Sasha Banks will also be missing for a similar amount of time.

Meanwhile, Drew McIntyre was written off TV after beating Madcap Moss at Day 1 as he looks to get treated for a neck injury.
