Max Verstappen on His Lowest Moment of the 2021 F1 Season: “You Don’t Want to Be There”

Max Verstappen continues to etch his name in the history books after a prolific 2021 F1 season. The Dutchman clinched 10 victories and 18 podiums on his way to win the drivers’ title. However, it didn’t come easy for the 24-year-old. Verstappen was up against reigning champion Lewis Hamilton, who has dominated the sport like no other driver in the turbo-hybrid era.

Lewis Hamilton looked all set to add another trophy to his cabinet till the tables turned in Abu Dhabi and Verstappen ended up winning his maiden world title, albeit controversially.

However, apart from all the jubilation, there were a few low moments as well for the Dutchman.

Recently, Verstappen reflected on some of the low moments for him this season which are not surprising to know – Baku and Silverstone. Hamilton allegedly crashed him out of the race in Silverstone and a tire puncture denied him a win in Baku.

Lowest moments in 2021 F1 season for Max Verstappen

In Silverstone, the Red Bull driver ended up in the hospital for checks after he hit the barrier going at a speed of almost 160 m/h. The FIA gave the Briton a 10-second penalty for the incident but that did not make any difference to the result.

Talking about the incident, Verstappen said, “Sitting in the hospital all evening and getting examined was definitely the low point. Because you don’t want to be there,” as reported by Motorsport.

Meanwhile, Baku was another race where Verstappen looked good to secure another win. He was leading the race for a major part but 5 laps from the end; his Red Bull suffered a crash due to a tire failure, and he was out of the race.

“Baku was not pretty. But these are the moments that make you a better rider in the end,” emphasized Verstappen.

“People are starting to doubt you, and there has been criticism as well. But I think that in such moments you learn that you have to continue to believe in yourself and in your own beliefs and be a strong person,” he added. 

The teams are looking forward to the upcoming 2022 season. In a big change for the Milton Keynes team, Honda has left the sport and Red Bull have taken over their engine needs. And with new regulations in place, 2022 is going to be an absolute thriller.
