Naomi Osaka’s New Manga Seeks Inspiration From Her Butterfly Moment at Australian Open

Japanese no.1 tennis player, Naomi Osaka is one of the sweetest characters on the tour. Despite her walking out from a few interviews, she has been really sweet and charming while media interactions. Her on-court behavior is also one of the best, always showcasing humility.

Everyone remembers her butterfly incident at the Australian Open last year and fans loved her because of that. Taking inspiration from that butterfly incident, the Japanese player is releasing her new manga collection for the fans to enjoy.

In the Australian Open 2021, the butterfly moment took place when Naomi Osaka was playing against Ons Jabeur of Tunisia in the third round. A black and orange butterfly flew into her leg during the second set of her match and it was really pleasing to the eyes the way she carefully handled the butterfly.

Osaka grabbed the butterfly with her gentle hands and walked towards the sideline to release it. However, the butterfly again flew back to sit on Osaka’s nose. It was an amusing moment for the crowd as well as everyone watching on TV. The Japanese player finally released the butterfly with applause from the whole stadium.

After seeing the incident, the Australian Open Twitter handle wrote, “Even the butterflies in Australia love Naomi Osaka.”

Naomi is from Japan, and it should not surprise anyone that she loves Manga and Anime (although its popular worldwide, too). That’s why she is really excited about her digital manga collection. Her sister Mari has drawn the whole manga and the main character is “Yōsei, the fairy”, inspired by the butterfly.

Osaka announced the news on social media on Saturday and wrote, “My upcoming digital Manga Collection, drawn by my sister Mari, releases January 20 on Autograph. This is Yōsei, the fairy…”

My upcoming digital Manga Collection, drawn by my sister Mari, releases January 20 on @Autograph. This is Yōsei, the fairy. My sister calls her my guide, almost like my angel. Osaka is ready to defend her title at the Australian Open

Naomi was in superb form early in 2021 when she won the Australian Open after beating Jennifer Brady in the final. Since then, she had many problems both on and off the court. However, she started 2022 with great fashion when she reached the semi-final of the Melbourne tournament.

Unfortunately, she had to withdraw from the semi-final due to injury. Hopefully, the injury is not too serious and she will be ready for the Grand Slam. The 4-time Grand Slam winner will start her campaign against Camila Osorio of Colombia on January 17th.

Can Osaka win again in Australia? Let us know in the comments.
