REVEALED: The Reason Jeff Gordon Wasn’t Present at the Chili Bowl Finale Despite Role as the Grand Marshal

The Chili Bowl Nationals will soon come to a close and there is the main event remaining. On an interesting note, former Hendrick Motorsports driver and NASCAR legend, Jeff Gordon is at the event. However, the four-time Cup Series champion is serving as a grand marshal for the iconic dirt racing spectacle. Unfortunately, he will not be able to perform his duties at the A-main finale. In a recent video, he explained his reasons for missing the event.

So honored to be Grand Marshal for the 2022 @CBNationals. Thankful to be part of it. Such an amazing event and racing. Let’s go @KyleLarsonRacin, @Alex_Bowman & @ChaseElliott! #ChiliBowl2022 https://t.co/WS6lzynrmu pic.twitter.com/KexB4Wdulo

Gordon said, “It’s a real honor this year to be the grand marshal for the 2022 Chili Bowl Nationals. This is an amazing event. On that is near and dear to my heart. I just love being here and being a part of this atmosphere, and amazing racing. Unfortunately, because of the weather, I’m going to have to leave early. I just want to thank everybody for allowing me to be here and be a part of this amazing event as a grand marshal. I will be back next year if I have to, and the year after that, or whatever it takes. Go Kyle Larson, Alex Bowman and Chase Elliott.

What is Jeff Gordon looking forward to in 2022?

With regard to the 2022 NASCAR Cup season, there is a massive target on Kyle Larson’s back. Additionally, Chase Elliott will also be eager to add a second title under his belt. All of this will depend on whether they are able to tame the Next Gen cars quicker than their rivals. Already, these cars have undergone several tests and all that is left is for the season to begin.

The first race on the hit list is the LA Coliseum, which is hosting the Busch Clash. As one of the top executives at Hendrick Motorsports, Jeff Gordon will be hoping that his drivers deliver an excellent performance. Of course, the team will also be wary of all their rivals. One slip-up could prove costly and derail their hopes of another Cup Series title.
