“That Inspired Me” – Albon Reveals Max Verstappen’s Greatest Strength in Lewis Hamilton F1 Battle

Max Verstappen won the 2021 world championship in a dramatic fashion. He passed his title rival Lewis Hamilton on the last lap of the season to win his first world title. Verstappen was almost perfect throughout the season. Former Red Bull driver Alex Albon mentioned that Max’s mental strength across the entire season was amazing.

The Dutch driver did not react negatively to any challenge in the season. He stayed level-headed, calm throughout the year, and celebrated only after the season was over. Albon mentioned that even if Max had lost the title, he would not have cared too much.

I was surprised by his ability not to worry: Albon on Max Verstappen

The Red Bull champion did not really celebrate any of his wins with enormous joy. He repeatedly mentioned that he would celebrate if he won the title at the end of the season. Albon revealed that he was impressed with Max’s mental fortitude in 2021.

“More than anything, I was surprised by his ability not to worry. Mentally, he’s incredible. He just drives the car and don’t think about the consequences or anything else that’s going on. That inspired me,” said Alex.

“If [Max] landed behind Lewis, he would say, ‘Okay, never mind.’ If he led a race or won a race, it was also: ‘Okay, whatever.’ I admire that because it’s not easy to be in the limelight as much as he is. That applied especially to the 2021 title fight because it was one of the most intense “we’ve ever seen in Formula 1,” said the new Williams driver.

We could say that the Dutch driver won the championship off the track as well. He was less affected by his misfortunes through the season. Max always had a clear sight of the big picture, i.e., of winning the championship. And he successfully achieved that dream.
