Line of Duty star Vicky McClure says cast are ‘all game’ for series 7 and we need it now

Line of Duty writer Jed Mercurio broke our hearts when he said there were ‘no plans’ for another series, however, Vicky McClure has boosted our spirits by confirming the cast would all be up for it.

Series 6 of the cop drama finished with one of the most talked about series finales of recent times.

And despite AC-12’s future on-screen seeming to be non-existent from the writer’s POV, Vicky (Kate Flemming) said our fave stars will be there at the drop of a hat should anything happen.

Her exciting revelation comes after Adrian Dunbar (Ted Hastings) also hinted that the H drama might not be entirely over.

Speaking to The Guardian, Vicky emphasised that ‘there’s no word’ of a seventh season being in the works.

However, she added that ‘should [another season] happen, we’re all game,’ as she spoke of her bond with her fellow cast mates.

The Trigger Point star said: ‘I’ll just stick with the guys. I think when it comes to a close, it will be a natural close for us all. And we’re very close with Jed, so it’s not a business transaction, do you know what I mean? This isn’t business, this is our lives and we’ve all created careers from it, and we’ve all got a lot out of it.’

She also gushed about how she ‘can’t imagine’ her life without co-stars gaffer Adrian and Martin Compston (Steve Arnott).

‘It’s like, well, at least I get to be with my mates for four months of the year,’ she shared.

But, like all things, Line of Duty will have to end one day (although we’re hoping series 6 won’t be it), as Vicky said it will ‘natural’ when it does.

She explained: ‘But, you know, everything comes to an end, and everything’s got a shelf life. So when that natural end is, is when it is. I’m just loyal to that. I can’t see me going, “I’m done, I’ve got a better job, I’m off,” because what’s better than Line of Duty?’

Exactly, Vicky, what’s better than Line of Duty?

The actress’ revelation comes after she admitted the show’s success was ‘unexpected’ and ‘a lot’ to process.

‘I don’t know how you describe it – those kinds of figures just don’t happen anymore; we don’t watch telly in that way,’ she said after a staggering 12.8million viewers tuned in for the finale.

The drama, which started as a little midweek treat on BBC Two, now boasts a boxset that has been streamed 137 million times on BBC iPlayer.

Its stars have become household names as a result, and the nation loves them.
