Jamie Lynn Spears has claimed she was left with ‘bruises’ following an alleged incident with her mother Lynne Spears.
The former Zoey-101 actress has opened up about her childhood, rise to fame and fraught relationship with older sister Britney Spears in her new memoir Things I Should Have Said.
In one chapter of the book, Jamie Lynn writes: ‘We would lash out at each other. It all came to a head one day when my mum was emotionally strained and she snapped. She started hitting me with a large beaded purse that had a camera inside. She repeatedly swung the bag and landed several blows on my shoulder until she stopped.
‘I ran to the shopping centre next door to where we lived. I used a payphone to call my brother – “Bryan, mum is going crazy”.’
During her appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Jamie Lynn addressed the incident and said: ‘I will say I was particularly an exceptional a**hole to my mother a lot and I do regret a lot of things that I probably could’ve done better to her.
‘The only reason I was being mean to her is because I just wanted her to stand up for me or stand up for herself. I think that just became all too much.’

Jamie Lynn, 30, said she and her mother have ‘talked about’ what happened and that Lynne is aware of what is included in the book. However, she didn’t tell many others about the incident at the time, including a makeup artist who saw bruises on her neck.
The autobiography features shocking accounts of her growing up with Britney. In one chapter, Jamie Lynn alleged a time when the Slave 4 U singer ‘locked them in a bedroom with a knife’, but the pop star has denied the claims.
She wrote on social media: ‘Jamie Lynn… congrats babe! You’ve stooped to a whole new level of LOW … I’ve never been around you ever with a knife or would I ever even think to do such !!! The only knife I ever saw you with at home was cutting the biggest pieces of squash I ever saw in my life and it was way too big for me to cut.’

The sisters’ relationship particularly soured last year as Britney fought against her conservatorship, which was finally terminated in November after 13 years.
In a teaser for part two of the interview, Jamie Lynn reads from a text message that she claims was sent from Britney and ‘clears her’.
