Lamptey, 21, joined the Blues’ academy in 2008 aged 8.

But despite being tipped as one for the future, the right-back made just three appearances for Chelsea.

Lamptey was sold to Brighton two years ago for a bargain £4million.

And the England U21 ace has since established himself as one of the league’s brightest young talents.

Lamptey’s development was evident in Tuesday night’s Premier League clash on the south coast.

As Chelsea attacked the Brighton penalty area, Lamptey came zooming in to cleanly win the ball off Callum Hudson-Odoi.

He then found his exit blocked off by three Chelsea players.

But with a shrug of the shoulder and an electric burst of pace, Lamptey zipped through the trio to launch a counter attack.

The ace found a teammate as a three-on-three situation was created.

But Brighton could not make the most of their opportunity, quickly surrendering possession back to Chelsea.

However, Lamptey’s effort did not go unnoticed by Blues fans still unhappy at the decision to let him go.

Chelsea have been hit by a wing-back crisis over the last month and many believe Lamptey would now be in the starting XI had he stayed at Stamford Bridge.

One fan moaned: “Whoever sanctions Chelsea’s departures needs sacking ASAP.”

Another noted: “Why did Chelsea let him go on a permanent basis? He would definitely be great competition for Reece James.”

Another added: “Quality player, big clubs will come knocking no doubt.”
