“I Thought My Name Was Charles Barkley Son of a B**ch for a Long Time”: NBA Legend Rips 76ers for Not Trading Ben Simmons Yet

Charles Barkley, a.k.a., Chuck, had some harsh words for the Philadelphia 76ers management recently. Specifically, urging them to trade Ben Simmons at the earliest. Speaking to a reporter about the 76ers management at LAX on Tuesday, he commented, “Stop being stubborn”.

Barkley, agreeing with Austin River, suggested that Ben Simmons’ career in Philadelphia is over. Sir Charles, himself a veteran 76er, knows that the fans in the city are unforgiving. Additionally, he proclaimed Simmons is never going to play another game in Philadelphia. Since Chuck played his first eight seasons with the 76ers and so he knows all too well about the unsparing nature of fans there. He remembers times when he was the one taking the heat from them.

Sir Charles further vocalised that the Philly big man Joel Embiid is playing fantastic this season. In contrast, Ben Simmons’ talents are going to waste. The 58-YO’s advice to the 76ers front office is “move on from a bad relationship”.

Chuck was asked what was the right step for the GM of the 76ers, Elton Brand. To this, he urged him to pick up the phone and call the Boston Celtics, the Houston Rockets, or the Sacramento Kings. He proposed that the 76ers should reach out to these teams regarding a trade for Simmons.

Further, he remarked that there are some great trade options in the market. He asserted that the 76ers should not waste Embiid’s great season, urging them to stop being stubborn.

How are the 76ers faring without Ben Simmons?

In spite of losing their last game against the Wizards yesterday, the Sixers still hold the 6th position in the Eastern Conference. Embiid has scored more than 30 points in their last 7 out of 8 matchups. He is averaging 27.3 PPG, making him 3rd in the Conference and 5th in the league. Moreover, his player efficiency rating currently is 29.54, putting him in the top 3.

Notably, Tyrese Maxey is filling in the shoes of Simmons right now. The young guard was the 21st pick in the 2020 draft. Certainly, he is promising to be an All Star guard in the future. However, the 76ers need an experienced and talented guard to replace Simmons.
