In this year’s Australian Open 2022, something strange is happening every match. Players are hearing constant boos during their practice and during their matches. The noise has proven to be confusing to the fans and players alike.
However, later everyone realized that those weren’t the sound of boo’s. In fact, they are the ‘Siuuu’ celebration chants of world-famous soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo. Known as CR7, Ronaldo often does the ‘Siuuu’ celebration after he scores a goal. It seems the celebration is spreading like a wildfire all around the world, even in the land down under.
The ‘Siuuu’ celebration causes some confusion for players in the Australian Open
The more you think about it, the more you find this instance hilarious. After his first-round match, former British no.1 Andy Murray didn’t seem too pleased about all the booing. He thought people were booing him during his match and during his practice and the Brit didn’t know the reason behind it. Andy thought it was quite irritating.

Later, the 2-time Wimbledon winner found out about the ‘Siuuu’ celebration and commented on the same. He said, “there were some people booing during my practice… I have no idea what for… originally, that’s what I thought it was… after a few times… they were doing like ‘Siuuu’… what Ronaldo does when he scores… It was incredibly irritating.”
Meanwhile, during Nick Kyrgios’ first-round match, the ‘Siuuu’ celebration was quite loud throughout the whole match. After the match, Nick even performed Ronaldo’s celebration with the chant of the crowd.
At the press conference, Nick said, “It’s just so stupid… they were doing some Ronaldo thing… I thought they were gonna do it for like ten minutes. They did it for 2 and a half hours… I don’t know why… it was a zoo out there.”
The celebration is trending worldwide
The Cristiano Ronaldo celebration is not only trending in Melbourne but all over the world. It’s no doubt that Ronaldo is the most popular soccer player in the world and maybe that’s the reason behind all this.
However, it will be interesting to see if the celebrations goes on throughout the entire Australian Open. The Australian Open had already become popular with the whole Novak Djokovic drama, but this latest ‘Siuuu’ celebration certainly brought some new dimension to the tournament.
