The world of the gaming ecosystem has certainly changed on it as soon as Microsoft broke the news of acquiring Activision and Blizzard. The groundbreaking deal saw the Microsoft studio shelling out nearly 70 billion dollars to purchase the industry leader. This has definitely left the entire ecosystem wondering what studio will Xbox acquire next.

The American studio had already once tried to purchase Nintendo back in the early days, but sadly, the deal never came through. The aggressive takeover of major players like ZeniMax Studio, Activision, and Blizzard has fueled the speculation of another potential push to rope in Nintendo.

Microsoft x Activision & Blizzard deal is bigger than Nintendo’s market cap

The six-part documentary series of Xbox’s story sheds light on the early attempt to buy Nintendo. However, that deal failed to materialize, but things have certainly changed since then. Microsoft initially wanted to buy the studio to build its gaming console, but, later on, figured it all out on its own. The studio has now built an incredible empire, which would not be easy to take on for anyone in the market, especially after the massive takeover of Activision and Blizzard that dwarfs Nintendo’s entire market cap.

Prominent industry analyst Geoff Keighley highlighted the massive difference in his latest tweet to showcase the mammoth nature of the deal. Microsoft has already once failed to acquire Nintendo studio, but all that could soon as Game Pass continues to evolve into gaming’s biggest live service offering.

How will Sony respond?

PlayStation is not going to miss out on any Activision and Blizzard title, as Xbox’s head Phil Spencer has made that promise already. However, this doesn’t mean that Sony can sit idly as Microsoft continues to take over everything.

In response, Sony has to improve its own grasp in the ecosystem but roping in major players like Sega, Nintendo, Rockstar, Ubisoft, and many more. This would be the only appropriate way the Japanese studio can even hope to remain competitive in the ongoing console war.
