Carlos Correa’s New Agent Scott Boras Claims “Championship Level” Houston Astros Can Still Retain Star

Carlos Correa is the centerpiece of all things off-season in 2022. The nature of the superstar shortstop and his free agency is that it has consumed all conversation for the past few months. And Correa doesn’t seem to be slowing down. With his hiring of super-agent Scott Boras, Correa has set out his intention; He is looking for a top-dollar contract,  one that he thinks is worthy of his talent.

The super-agent in a recent media interaction made clear his intention to get his client a top deal. Possibly leaving Astros fans dejected at having to compete with the likes of the New York Yankees or the Chicago Cubs financially, there may still be hope. Boras also spoke about the Astros organization and the team that they have put together, and let’s just say, it’s not all just sad news yet.

Scott Boras speaks about the Houston Astros

Speaking specifically about the last team that Carlos Correa took the diamond for, Boras seemed bullish on the team’s prospects. Speaking to the team composition and it’s past record, Boras mentioned that it would ultimately be for Correa to decide.

The video features Boras mentioning, “The Astros have 3 or 4 great pitchers, they also have 6 or 7 great position players who are all relatively young.” Setting out that the Astros are not far from being a team in contention. Especially for players like Correa who may be looking for a championship contender.

Even further, Boras added, “It’s an organization that’s been at the championship level for 3 or 4 years and yet that can continue for 6 or 7 if they are able to retain those true core pieces of All-Star level talent.” And while retention of that core remains in question, Correa certainly forms a big part of that equation.

Houston Astros – Re-signing Carlos Correa?

Boras went on to speak about the chances that the Astros land Correa in free agency this year. Talking about these transactions, he spoke about how choices like these come about as few and far in between. Especially as an owner.

Boras mentioned, “There are always owners that are willing to make the best business decisions. One they will always remember.” And to be perfectly honest, there are only so many moments in any franchise’s history that can decide which way the ship tends. The re-signing of Correa could well be that moment for the Astros.

Because of his own experience in the game, Boras mentioned how rarely these opportunities come about. And how many owners he knows have thought back to these decisive moments in franchise history. Speaking candidly, he said, “They realize I don’t get a chance to make decisions like this maybe in my ownership history or maybe in a decade.

Boras is a top agent for a reason. And perhaps his next statement is exactly why. Continuing on from his statement, he mentioned that as an owner, you would want to make those calls. Said Boras, “And I wanna exercise every opportunity to acquire something that may not be available.

Boras may have snagged the top client for the off-season, but it’s just as true that Correa has snagged the top agent as well. And with the lockout hopefully drawing to a close soon, we might be seeing a mega-contract on the cards for Correa, albeit from whom is still uncertain.
