After Life creator Ricky Gervais has opened up on the one scene from the Netflix series which still ‘chokes him up’ every time, after the third and final season dropped earlier this month.

The actor, 60, who created and stars in the phenomenal comedy-drama, confirmed this would be the last outing of the beloved show.

The devastating finale has moved many tuning in, to tears, but now Ricky revealed the part which leaves him in tears every single time he watches.

The premise of the series saw Tony Johnson (Ricky Gervais) has struggled to navigate through his grief after losing his wife Lisa (Kerry Godliman) to cancer

He’s comforted through a series of videos she left him to watch after she died, which make for some truly tear-jerking moments.

So it’s no surprise it’s a scene involving Lisa herself that gets Ricky the most.

Chatting to Metro.co.uk and other press ahead of the season three release, Ricky admitted the scene ‘still chokes me up’ despite watching so many times.

He shared: ‘There’s one scene I’ve watched it 70 times and it still absolutely chokes me up.

‘It’s when Lisa reads the poem in episode six honestly, I gag.

‘It’s such an amazing poem, it’s such an amazing performance and what’s happening while it’s happening.

‘Honestly, that poem, I’ve loved it for years I’ve always wanted to use it, it’s devastating,’ he added.

Co-star Diane Morgan weighed in on Kerry’s delivery: ‘She doesn’t really play the sentimentality of it either she [just] does it and she does it so honestly and lovely.’

Ricky added: ‘It was one take and I looked around and everyone was quiet so yeah it’s that one for me.’

Fans were gutted this would be the final season of the programme, but Ricky hasn’t completely ruled out a possible return in the future.
