Is George Russell the Tallest F1 Driver of All-Time?

Formula One is a sport that allows drivers from various countries to compete. However, apart from the different nationalities on the grid, the drivers’ heights also make them stand out. Many within the Formula One community think that Mercedes’ newest signing George Russell is the tallest driver ever to compete in the sport.

However, fans will be disappointed to know that it isn’t the former Williams driver who holds that record. Instead, it goes to a driver who competed in the sport nearly two decades ago.

Where does George Russell end up on the list of tallest drivers in F1 history?

The new Mercedes driver has a height of 185 cm. Many would assume that would make him the tallest driver in the sport’s history. However, that record doesn’t go to the 23-year-old, as Justin Wilson holds that honor.

The British driver only had one season in the pinnacle of motorsports. He drove Minardi before making the move to Jaguar in the 2003 season. He had a height of 193 cm; making him the tallest driver in modern F1 racing. However, pre-2000s, it is Germany’s Hans-Joachim Stuck who is believed to be the tallest driver in all of F1 history, as he had a height of 194 cm.

On the current Formula One grid, the tallest driver honor will be shared between Williams’ Alex Albon and Alpine’s Esteban Ocon; both standing tall at 186 cm. Meanwhile, AlphaTauri’s Yuki Tsunoda will be the shortest driver on the grid as he heads into his second season of Formula One. The Japanese driver has a height of 159 cm.
