WWE Superstar Spills the Beans on How Hard Evander Holyfield Punched Him at a Show in MSG: “That’s What He Does for a Living, He Throws Punches”

Evander Holyfield, one of the most renowned boxers, has always proven himself in the field. However, that wasn’t the only combat-sport he has ever worked with. There was a time Holyfield punched MVP in the squared circle and laid him out!

While talking to Ryan Sain from Out of Character, WWE Superstar MVP explained that even though Holyfield punched him, they did not have to explain to him what it should look like.

More often than not, when celebrities from other fields come to WWE for a guest appearance and punch a Superstar, they’re asked to make it look as real as possible. But, with Evander Holyfield, they did not have to.

“Boxers are in total control of their hands. They can hit you as hard or as light as they want to. So, there was no discussion about him hitting me because boxers, when they go hard, they go hard. Sometimes they have light sparring sessions where they just kind of tap. I wasn’t concerned about his professionalism at all. We didn’t have to have a talk with him about, you know, making it look good. That’s what he does for a living. He throws punches.” H/t Out of Character with Ryan Satin

In fact, MVP revealed that while it looked like Holyfield punched him hard, it was a light tap and nothing more!

Evander Holyfield refused to fight Matt Hardy

Essentially, Holyfield was never supposed to be a part of the ring with MVP. However, MVP had to pull out because of medical issues. As a result, both of them were allowed to choose replacements.

Now, Matt Hardy chose to stay in the match but MVP decided to pick Holyfield as his replacement. Many expected Hardy to withstand Holyfield’s shots, but that didn’t happen.

Hardy ended up hitting the mat multiple times and after a point Evander Holyfield refused to fight. At this point, MVP entered the ring and asked Holyfield to continue. He agreed but instead of taking the shot at Hardy, it landed on MVP.

But, like MVP explained, it was a simple tap considering he knew what it was supposed to look like and how much impact the punch was supposed to have.
