Everton next manager: Frank Lampard odds-on favourite for Toffees job ahead of new discussions, Vitor Pereira price drop

FRANK LAMPARD is the leading contender for the Everton job.

That’s according to bookmakers Betfair, who’ve significantly altered his price of him taking charge at Goodison Park over the last 24 hours.

The England legend was previously available at 6/1 but has been backed into 8/15 after a flurry of activity in the betting market.

Lampard, 43, is thought to have impressed majority owner Farhad Moshiri earlier in the search.

And he’s set for another round of discussions with Moshiri and Everton’s board of directors in the coming days, reports claim.

It’s been just over 12 months since Lampard was relieved of his duties at Chelsea.

He guided the club to fourth place and the FA Cup final in his first season in charge, whilst under a transfer embargo and without the services of Eden Hazard.

Chelsea’s all-time record scorer did, however, spend more than £200million the following season before his departure.

Joe Cole believes Lampard is a ‘very safe pair of hands’ and should be given the opportunity.

He said: “I think Frank is a very safe pair of hands for Everton after Rafa’s departure.

“He has the experience of being a top club from managing Chelsea but also one where expectations might be different in managing Derby and he understands the Premier League inside out from his playing days too.”

The Toffees were seemingly intent on appointing Vitor Pereira (7/4), but Moshiri looks to have made a U-turn after protests from supporters.

Fans protested his arrival with graffiti on the stadium, which simply read: Pereira out, Lampard in”.

News of protests are understood to have unnerved the former Porto coach, who delivered a bizarre interview on Sky Sports News.

He said: “Of course (I am hurt) because this is the first time in my career I have seen this kind of thing and comments about me.

“My CV speaks for itself. But I think these critics do not understand me. It is the environment now because the club is not in a good position.

“In my opinion some of the critics do not know me, they do not know me as a person or my work. They do not know my CV. We got several titles.”

The interview was branded an unacceptable ‘televised soap opera’ by some, with Pereira a symbol of agent Kia Joorabchian’s growing influence on the club.
