What is the new Instagram cupcake notification?

SINCE launching in 2010, Instagram has introduced countless new features and upgrades.

In January 2022, some users started seeing a cupcake notification in their feed and were curious as to what it meant.

What is the new Instagram cupcake notification?

On January 24, 2022, users started noticing a message that featured a cupcake with the text box “Not Now” underneath.

In the past, a cupcake has been associated with users’ birthdays but that does not seem to be the case this time around.

At this time, it remains unclear what the recent Instagram cupcake notification is about as the platform has not released a statement.

Some users think it could be a glitch and that Instagram is working on fixing it as soon as possible.

There have also been reports made that the notification does not go away after clicking the “Not Now” button.

What is Instagram’s “Posts You’ve Seen” feature?

Just weeks before the cupcake notification confusion, Instagram rolled out its new feature that allows users to have an easier way of tracking the content they enjoy.

Its “Posts You’ve Seen” feature lets users keep track of all of the different posts and profiles they’ve viewed while endlessly scrolling.

It is meant to be a solution to finding posts you have already seen since posts are based on an algorithm, taking them out of time order.

The feature is still in its testing stage so it is not available to all users yet.

Despite it being in a “testing” stage, there is no guarantee that the platform will launch it as they could receive bad feedback and decide to move in a different direction.

Who owns Instagram?

Instagram was first founded in 2010 by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger but later sold to Facebook, now Meta, for approximately $1billion.

Despite being acquired, Systrom remained its CEO until September 2018, when he decided to move on to other projects.

In October 2021, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg reportedly lost $7billion during a worldwide outage that affected Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.

GoogleAmazon, Spectrum, TwitterSnapchatTikTokApple, Telegram, Verizon and Cricket Wireless also reported outages during that time.
