‘Joshua Priced Himself Out’: Frank Warren Reveals How Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk Fell Apart

After many discussions, delays, and purse bids, the fight between Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte is finally on. This matchup was in contention ever since the Briton beat Deontay Wilder in his last outing. Although ‘The Gypsy King’ was keen to fight Oleksandr Usyk, ‘The Cat’ was contractually obliged to fight Anthony Joshua in a rematch.

Fury’s team also remained on their toes to give ‘AJ’ his step aside money to book Fury vs Usyk. The WBC champion’s promoter, Frank Warren, spilled the beans on this entire matter.

Speaking to The Lowdown, he said, “Tyson was up for it, but at the end, some of the demands, financial demands …making to step aside were just impossible to accommodate.”

“Joshua priced himself out when he was at the demands he was making. I think that was the straw that broke the camel’s back as far as Tyson was concerned.”

Per reports, Anthony Joshua was in a position to bag a $20 million paycheck to step aside. However, he seemed uninterested right from the beginning. After the purse bid, the developments of an undisputed fight between Fury and Usyk went out of the picture.

For now, there’s clarity in the big division regarding the title fights. Fury will battle out Dillian Whyte to defend his WBC title for the second time in a row. Meanwhile, Joshua will look to settle scores with ‘The Cat’ in his next boxing appearance.

Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk will be favorites in their next respective fights. Should they both win, there will be enough time for them to make a turnaround and return to the ring in fall or winter.
