Brits can surely be forgiven for not understanding every rule of American football.
But even those among us with zero knowledge of the sport will probably recognise the Super Bowl – if only for the fact there’s a show-stealing concert right in the middle of it.
For some of us, it’s even the highlight of the event – as well as the big buck adverts that run during commercial breaks.
Here’s all you need to know about the main event, and much anticipated halftime show.
When is the Super Bowl 2022?

It’s just around the corner! The 56th Super Bowl will take place on Sunday, February 13.
The game will be played at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, and will decide this year’s National Football League (NFL) champions.
Facing off are the Los Angeles Rams (winners of the National Football Conference) against the Cincinnati Bengals (winners of the American Football Conference).
Confused? Or honestly just there for the star-studded halftime show? Whatever the case, it’ll still be entertaining.
Over in the States, the Super Bowl starts at 6pm EST (5pm CT). In the UK, the game will begin airing at a much-later time of 11.30pm GMT on BBC One and several Sky Sports channels.

Forget all the American football – as there’s one hell of a halftime show line-up.
Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J Blige and Kendrick Lamar will all perform at SoFi Stadium at the halfway point of the game.
The epic collaboration between some of hip hop’s best-known artists was announced back in October 2021, with a four-minute teaser trailer released just days ago.
The trailer begins with Eminem’s hit Rap God, Snoop Dogg’s unmistakable track The One and Only, and later transitions into Mary J Blige’s classic song Family Affair.
Kendrick Lamar is seen furiously writing – with the opening of Still Dre, by Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg, playing over a creative shot of a piano embedded into the beach.

It’s an elaborate trailer (with plenty of fancy cars and even a private jet) – which can only indicate it’ll be quite the spectacle.
The Super Bowl halftime show is known for being iconic, as well as attracting many of the the world’s biggest musical stars.
Past shows have seen Beyoncé, Madonna, Britney Spears, Janet Jackson, Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars and Justin Timberlake all take centre stage.
Several bands have also headlined, including Maroon 5, U2, The Rolling Stones and Coldplay.
The Super Bowl airs at 11.30pm on Sunday, February 13 on BBC One, Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports NFL
