Benedict Cumberbatch has hit back at the haters after they compared him to Ali G in his latest magazine photoshoot.

The Marvel actor, 45, is the cover star for W magazine where he is seen wearing a yellow bucket hat, yellow aviator sunglasses, a yellow floral top and holding a sprig of daisies.

The look, which was photographed by Tim Walker, reminded many of the iconic yellow Ali G outfit worn by the character created by Sacha Baron Cohen – and they were not holding back from telling him about it.

They tweeted: ‘now why did they dress Benedict Cumberbatch as Ali G’ and ‘Why does Benedict Cumberbatch look like ali g?’

Others added: ‘they literally made benedict cumberbatch look like ali g loooool’ and ‘Looking forward to the gritty Ali G reboot with Benedict Cumberbatch.’

Another quipped: ‘Benedict Cumberbatch playing Ali G in future reboot confirmed (source: me).’

Addressing the comments, the Dr Strange told Times Radio: ‘I found it very freeing to go, “Yeah, fine, I’m just surrendering myself to an artist’s concept…”

‘And yeah, f**k the p**s takers… I don’t have to defend Tim [Walker], he’s out there.’

Thankfully, Benedict appeared to see the funny side of the avant-garde concept of his cover shoot and didn’t seem to take the comments personally.

His homage to the wannabe gangster character comes as a great time, as Sacha recently revealed he could bring Ali G back in future.

While he enjoyed the transformation, Benedict admitted he is not planning to take any more style tips from Ali G as he joked: ‘You won’t be seeing me walking around in a Fendi bucket hat or whatever it was anytime soon or a 10 gallon hat that doesn’t fit my rather large head anyway.’

Shame, we reckon he could pull it off.
