John Kavanagh Casually Laughs off the Idea of Conor McGregor Returning to Featherweight
Conor McGregor is one of the biggest fighters in the history of mixed martial arts and a former two-division UFC champion.
The UFC signed him in 2013. The Irishman soon tore through the featherweight division of the promotion and clinched the title. His knockout win over of the greatest of all time, Jose Aldo, sent the world into a frenzy. That win catapulted him into never-before-seen stardom. However, after the win, he left the division and hasn’t returned since.
Recently, there were talks about him possibly making a return to take on the current featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski. He had made comments about ‘The Great’ and there was a back-and-forth between the two men. However, according to his coach John Kavanagh, McGregor won’t be returning to featherweight.
In an interview, he was asked if there was a chance of him going to 145. He said, “Nah! I don’t see that.”
‘The Notorious‘ ruled the 145 division in the UFC at one point. He bulldozed his way through the competition to make his way to the very top. The Irishman defeated some of the biggest names, not just in the division but in MMA history.

After beating Aldo, he clinched the UFC lightweight title with the dismantling of Eddie Alvarez. McGregor is the biggest superstar in the sport and easily the biggest draw. Fighters want a piece of him, and one of those fighters is Alexander Volkanovski.
Alexander Volkanovski has shown interest in fighting Conor McGregor
Alexander Volkanovski is one of the best fighters in the world right now. He is the UFC featherweight champion and is on an amazing run. He is on a 20 fight winning streak, out of which 10 have been in the UFC. The Australian mixed martial artist has taken on the biggest names in the division and worked his way to the top in the hardest way possible.
Many consider him to be the greatest featherweight of all time. However, there is one guy that he hasn’t fought and that is Conor McGregor. But after his fight with Brian Ortega, Volkanovski said he would fight him.
He said, “Come back down to featherweight, I would love it. He reckons he is the man of the featherweight division, and again, I’ve got the strategy. I’m obviously tough and yeah, I’m a whole different beast to what he’s used to in this division. So, if he wants to come back down, welcome. I would love it.”
However, not many believe McGregor will drop down to 145, but ‘The Great’ is ready to go up a division. He said, “It’s not an option, I don’t know if he would do it. Let’s go with 155. Let’s do it, 155, we make it happen.”

A fight between these two will tear the roof off any venue. Both are great fighters and the fans love to see them fight. However, McGregor is currently on the sidelines and Volkanovski has a title defense coming up. He is scheduled to take on Chan Sung Jung at UFC 273.
