Taking Forward Michael Phelps Legacy, Team USA Defeats China in Curling at His Dominant Ground

The 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics has seen some of the greatest Olympic sporting moments in history. Michael Phelps won eight gold medals while Usain Bolt left his mark on the track. Thus, after a gap of 14 years, the Olympic Games is back in the form of the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022. With most of those venues used for different competitions, Team USA won their mixed doubles curling match against China.

Significantly, this happened in the same arena where Phelps dominated the proceedings. Hence, the legacy remains intact as the US Curling team got a sensational victory.

During the 2008 Summer Olympics, the hype was behind Phelps, who dominated the swimming pool competitions. He broke Mark Spitz’s 1972 Munich Games record of seven gold medals by winning eight, as well as, set seven world records during those games. Hence, it became an iconic venue for most people, which was later developed into a public pool. From there, Beijing got an opportunity to host the Winter Olympics as a sensational victory by the curlers cements Phelps’ legacy.

The team of Vicky Persinger and Chris Plys got together and handed a sensational victory for Team USA. They met the Team from China in the mixed doubles curling competition as the USA defeated them by a 7-5 score. Hence, the start looks good for the curlers in Beijing as they hope to continue their fine form. With Phelps competing in the same venue a long time back, the aura still remains. The GOAT swam his way to glory under the sheet of ice.

The conversion from pool to ice sheet

The organizers got to work and made a removable ice-making machine for the development of the curling arena. The pool got drained, and the workers assembled over 2500 steel beams and 1500 lightweight prefabricated concrete panels to bring about the structure. They can convert the ice sheets into a swimming pool in 20 days.

Hence, modern-day technology is impressive and makes things easier. They often regard the National Aquatics Center in Beijing as a modern-day engineering marvel. With all the technology that remains, the legacy remains intact as Phelps is a legend in these parts.
