When are the Oscars taking place this year and where?

The Oscars are set to return in style this year, after the Covid pandemic prevented a normal ceremony from taking place in 2021.

As well as the biggest night in the movie calendar returning to something like normal – complete with glitzy, star-studded red carpet – the show is also set to have a host for the first time in three years, although it’s yet to be confirmed who will present.

The nominees are due out on February 8, meaning we’ll know soon enough who’ll be competing for those coveted statuettes this year.

But just when is this year’s ceremony – and where will it take place?

When are the Oscars this year?

This year’s Oscars ceremony – the 94th – will take place on Sunday March 27.

The end of March is later than usual for the Academy Awards, however, they will take place at this time to avoid a clash with the Winter Olympics.

It is however earlier than the 2021 Oscars, which due to the pandemic took place on April 25.

Despite being a more low-key event they proved historic, with Chloe Zhao becoming the first woman of colour to have ever won best director for Nomadland, which delved into the world of van-dwelling nomads – and which also won Frances McDormand her third best actress trophy.

Meanwhile Anthony Hopkins became the oldest ever best actor winner, with the 83-year-old picking up the Oscar for his performance in The Father alongside Olivia Colman.

The ceremony will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, and will be televised live in the United States on ABC and in more than 200 territories worldwide.

The Oscars are usually broadcast in the UK through Sky Cinema and NOW TV – so if you’re planning to stay up all night and see who brings home the gold, check their listings nearer the date to see what time their coverage kicks off.
