I’m too embarrassed to tell people my daughter’s name so refer to her by a nickname instead

A REGRETFUL mother has revealed how she’s too embarrassed to refer to her young daughter by her “controversial” name, so calls her by a nickname instead so that she’s not judged.

The anonymous woman, from the UK, took to Reddit and asked for help with the name for baby number two after regretting her somewhat “controversial” name choice for her first born.

“I have a daughter named Winter (middle name is a classic female name that is not a noun name),” she explained.

“Sometimes we call her Winnie (and unfortunately, I’ve introduced her as that before to older women because I hate when they furrow their brows and say ‘Huh. I’ve never heard that before.’)”

She went on to say that after she named her daughter and started to feel the judgement, she was “panicking” and worried she’d “ruined her life.”

The woman in question explained how she is now expecting baby number two but is really worried about picking the right name due to the previous reaction.

“Winter ended up being slightly more controversial of a name than I had hoped, and even though I love it and it checks all the boxes, I don’t want another ‘out there’ name,’ she admitted.

The pregnant woman added that the name she settles on can’t be another noun or word name.

“I don’t want to call out ‘Winter, Rose!’ on the playground,” she explained. “I love seasonal names, but none of that for this name (Julia is too close to July for example).”

“I don’t want to make it all about what other people think obviously, but I do want to be conscientious of it because I don’t want either kid to feel singled out by these comments that will be made in front of them someday.”

She revealed she liked the name “Jane’ but was concerned that people will say: “You gave your first child such an interesting name and then your second child is Plain Jane?”

And it wasn’t long before social media users took to the comments section – with many defending the name choice, “Winter”.

“I’m sorry people are being such jerks over your daughter’s name,” wrote one. “Do remember though: this is them being jerks; it’s not your fault.”

“They’re letting their judgemental side show. These same people would probably raise their eyebrows at anything.”

A second advised: “I’d personally double down and name a daughter Summer.”

Meanwhile, a third added: “I just want to say I love the name Winter and I’m sorry that people have had such bad reactions to it!! I’m surprised because I honestly don’t think its that ‘out there’ of a name??”

In other parenting news, this woman is pregnant with triplets and already feels massive, but her doctor says she’ll probably still double in size.
