“This Isn’t the Way That I Dreamed”: Nina O’Brien Heartbroken After Tragic Crash, Thanks Fans for Support at Beijing Winter Olympics 2022

The giant slalom is a tricky competition due to the risk involved. With winding gates at an insane pace, one small lack of judgment can have devastating effects. That happened to Nina O’Brien at this year’s event at the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022. She suffered a fractured tibia and fibula on her left leg which was frightening to watch. Other skiers had their hearts in their mouths as they could not believe what happened.

Moreover, the paramedics arrived on the spot and rushed her to the hospital. Hence, O’Brien spoke about the devastating injury.

Nina O’Brien is in stable condition

The sensational Nina O’Brien is a talented skier and for anyone to go out as she did is a heart-breaking moment. Suffering a painful ankle fracture, her road to recovery begins. She received support from fellow athletes and other fans as she was happy with the support received from everybody. However, she opened up about being heartbroken after the injury and hopes to recover soon. The Olympics in China saw its first heartbreaking moment.

“I’m definitely a little bit heartbroken. This isn’t the way that I dreamed my Olympics to go and I don’t think how it’s any athlete wants to end their Olympics but I can’t say how much the words of support that I’ve gotten have meant to me. I have just been overwhelmed with how many people have reached out to me and it has meant the world to me, these last two days,” said O’Brien.

With an injury as devastating as hers, it would take time for her to recover both physically and mentally. Hopefully, she can through it without any problems.

A scary accident

While skiing down the hills, her ski hit one of the gates causing it to bend inside. As that happened, she could not control her stance as her knee bent inwards. Thus, with the momentum she picked up, she fractured her leg with that crash. Thus, after receiving preliminary medical treatment in China, she would travel back to the United States of America soon.

Injuries are hard for athletes, especially, as devastating as this one. Thus, it is important for her to not lose hope and focus on the brighter side of things. We wish her a speedy recovery!
