What is Wordle?

Wordle is a web-based word game developed by Welsh-born software engineer Josh Wardle.

The former Reddit employee created the game during lockdown for himself and his wife,

Players have six attempts to guess a six-letter word.

When inputting words, tiles will change colour to help deduce what the word could be.

Orange tiles indicate a letter that is in the word but in the wrong place.

Green tiles show you’ve got the right letter and positioning.

If a tile goes grey, it isn’t in the word and will be marked on the game’s onscreen keyboard.

There is a daily challenge for players to solve with statistics totalled up and shown at the end of each game showing your previous number of guess attempts.

Users can also turn on hard mode, which forces players to use the hints they’re given, stopping them from guessing words at random.

Since its release in October 2021, the game has been played by more than three million people worldwide.

On January 31, 2022, the game creator sold his popular brain teaser to The New York Times for an undisclosed amount.

A number of spin-off games have appeared since Wordle’s release such as Wheeldle which allows players an unlimited amount of games in a day.

Absurdle actively tries to stop the player from guessing the day’s word by allowing the players themselves to select the word for them from a wide selection based on the letters they use.

Think Wordle would be better with a crossword added to it? Crosswordle has you covered.

Lewdle gives you a new naughty word to guess each day, while Lordle Of The Rings is perfect for Tolkien fans with a five-letter word from the main Lord of the Rings text to guess each day.

If numbers are more your thing, Primel gets players to guess a new five-digit prime number each day, and Nerdle has you find a proper equation using numbers and symbols.

Squirdle gives you a walking, talking Pokedex straight out of the popular gaming franchise Pokemon as you are given a new Pokemon each day to guess by determining its generation, type, height and weight.

What are the previous Wordle answers?

Yesterdays Wordle solution caused a stir on social media.

Twitter users took to the site to discuss the not-so-funny spelling of the day’s word.

The answer, ‘humor’, caused outrage with some players for using the American spelling of the word.

An earlier puzzle on January 12, 2022 caused similar outrage for ditching the U in Favour, with Favor being the day’s answer.
