Spanish actress Isabel Torres dies aged 52 following lung cancer battle

Isabel Torres, a Spanish actress, has died at the age of 52 following a two-year-long battle with cancer. 

News of the Veneno actress’s death was confirmed on her social media account, with a post in Spanish telling fans: ‘Today, February 11, 2022, we say goodbye to Isabel.

‘Although her family and friends feel her loss deeply, we know that wherever she goes, she will have fun as only she knows how.

‘Thank you for all the messages of affection and concern. She has left feeling very loved and supported.’

According to press in Spain, Torres had been suffering from cancer for two years which led to metastases in her bones. 

In November 2021, Torres had shared a video on Instagram telling her followers that she had been told by doctors that she had two months to live.

The actress had found fame in 2019, starring as Cristina Ortiz, the Spanish transgender singer and television personality better known as La Veneno. 

She received her diagnosis while filming, after noticing she was in pain, later telling the Spanish press: ‘My life has not been easy. Without realising it, I have made a battle of my life.

‘A battle that I don’t know if it will end soon or a little later. What I am clear about is that I am not going to stop fighting until the last moment.’

Torres was a LGBTQ+ advocate, being the first Canarian woman to have her gender changed on her ID in 1996 and proudly spoke about being raised by two mothers. 

She was also the first transgender candidate for the queen of the Carnival of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, a major festival on the island. 

Veneno director Javier Ambrossi paid tribute to the star, writing on Instagram: ‘I can only thank you, Isabel.
