Jon Richardson ‘was upset knowing Sean Lock was ill’ during late star’s final 8 Out Of 10 Cats episodes

Jon Richardson has penned another emotional tribute to late, great comedian Sean Lock, who featured in one of his final 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown before his death.
Lock died last August at the age of 58 after suffering from lung cancer, leaving the world of TV and comedy devastated.
After the return of 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown for a new series earlier this month, fans thought they wouldn’t see him back on-screen.
But he returned to his role as a team captain in Friday night’s episode, which Channel 4 announced beforehand would mark one of Lock’s ‘last appearances on the show’.
After the episode aired, some of his co-stars took to social media to express their love of the comic, including his fellow team captain and close friend Richardson.
He shared how ‘upset’ he was throughout the instalment, knowing how ill his co-star was but still managing to raise the roof in the studio.

Richardson wrote on Twitter: ‘Watching Sean’s last ep of Countdown I can see how upset I was knowing he was ill and how much that affected my performance, while Sean himself continued to be effortlessly hilarious.
‘A true comic to the end. That’s why he’s trending on Twitter and why he’s so missed.’
Panellist Rosie Jones, who also featured in the episode along with Harry Hill and Nick Mohammed, said watching it air was ‘bittersweet’.

Ahead of the show, she said: ‘Ah. This is bittersweet.
‘I’m on #CatsDoesCountdown tonight and it’s Sean’s last appearance on the show.’
Lock even managed to win the conundrum in last night’s episode in classic fashion, despite still losing on the total score.
As the credits started rolling, a tribute to Lock appeared on screen, with a picture of him alongside the message: ‘In loving memory of comedy legend Sean Lock, 1963 – 2021.’
Many of those watching flooded Twitter during the episode, as it clearly was an emotional watch for many fans.
‘If that was Sean Lock’s final episode, we should all cheer that he got the final conundrum! Comedy genius,’ one person wrote.
A fan said: ‘Glad to see #CatsDoesCountdown saved an episode for a tribute to Sean Lock. It was funny and great. I shed a tear when he won the Conundrum. Thanks for the laughs Sean!’
